MASS APPEAL PRESENTS|TRAP CITY

"During our recent trip to Atlanta for Mass Appeal Issue 57, we caught up with Organized Noize for an episode of Rhythm Roulette, when David Banner randomly drove past the record store we were filming at. After speeding away in his Jeep with a maniacal laugh, he ultimately returned to catch up with Ray, Rico, and Sleepy. The conversation naturally drifted to the impact of trap music in 2015, with Banner subsequently dropping gems on the genre, comparing its booming kicks and stuttering hi-hats to the very real sounds of violence in the hood.
Inspired by the conversation, we met with a handful of influential artists and got their perspective on this newfound meaning of the trap.
Future gives one of his rare interviews sans-sunglasses, saying his anthemic “Trap Niggas” is for everyone, even people working full-time jobs. Amidst further quotes from up-and-comer Trouble, grafiti artist Dr. Dax, Adult Swim’s Jason DeMarco, andQuavo, we’re finally tied back with some impassioned words from Mr. Banner. “They cryin’ out askin’ for help! They tellin’ you: ‘I’m in the trap cuz’ that school shit don’t mean nothing’…I know what the trap do, and don’t nobody wanna fix that.” All too real.____MassAppeal
