LIL MASE - STYLE & MUSIC INTERVIEW

A short time ago I was introduced to Southern artist Lil Mase. He raps as well as shoots directs and edits music videos.  On the mic Lil Mase gives you  the vibe that he's a true fan of hip hop and the art of music. As for his visuals clearly his imagination didn't die young. Click inside for our interview with Lil Mase where we talks personal style and  his music.

Do you have a favorite designer or brand that you are feeling at the moment?

I really like it when a brand makes it seem less like a line and more like a lifestyle so with that said I'mma have to say Rocksmith.

At one point in the hip hop world we didn't have many variations when it came to style. It was sorta like we all wore somewhat of the same things with slight variations. How much do you appreciate where style has went lately?

I can appreciate SOME of the new things in style. It changes alot ...like multiple times a year to me. But the things that are stickin' like the upside down crosses and the triangles everywhere, I don't believe that really means something but me personally I just can't rock with it.

Having spent time in Alabama on and off since a kid I,ve noticed different trends there . One thing that sticks out from way back is the duckhead days. What comes to mind when you hear duck head?

Haha!! Man at the schools I went to you'll get clowned on too hard rockin' that G. If you wasn't wearing Dickies then it it was O.V.! Now I didn't fit the criteria all the times so I wasn't too safe myself haha.

What are some of the things  have influenced your personal style over the years?

It's nerdy as hell to say this but anime. Definitely anime and video games. I know half of the things they wear would look ridiculous in real life so I just mix what I think is cool with it and there's my style.

Music

What do you want your listeners to get out of your music?

I just want them to feel what I felt when I made the song. The lyrics are just as important, but nothing compares to the feeling of music. Some songs can have no lyrics at all but they can just breath emotion into you ya kno?

Did you always know you wanted to do something that would make you standout such as entertainment?

Naa man when I was 14 I thought I was gonna be an architect! I was on the computer making blueprints and everything. At first I just kinda feel into music. But then I started to catchin' feelings...so here we are! haha.

You rap as well as direct, edit and film videos how did all of this come about ?

My pop always told me if you want anything done, do it yourself. And I always could fantasize about how I wanted my videos to look plus I'm pretty tech savvy. So it was pretty easy to just pick up the camera and shoot! I shot a few videos for other people too though. You could say its my second passion next to music.

What artist have had the biggest influence on you when it comes to music ?

The question I was waiting for!! haha. But its a pretty wide spectrum so I'm gonna start from the expected Kanye, A Tribe Called Quest, Lupe, Cool Kids, The-Dream. Now on the other side Lykke Li, Calvin Harris, Robyn, and I have a new found respect for Amy Winehouse

What are your thoughts about the fact that everyone wants a part in the music business today ?

All I got to say is remember that this is an art just like paint, sculpting, and photography etc. Treat it as such.

What can we look forward to from Lil Mase in the near future?

New Music coming soon!!! I'm gonna be trying some new things! But don't forget to download the mixtape I just dropped " The Frisking " ! http://iamlilmase.bandcamp.com/
