Style Feature: Neak

1.  Who or What are some of the biggest influences on your style ?

My biggest influence on style can vary from time to time. Usually, it changes throughout different times in my life. At one point in my life, I was very heavy into different styles of shoes (PF Flyers, Nike SB's, etc). As of now, I've been into accessories a lot. Big shout out to Good Wood NYC. I've a very big fan of their accessories (from their finger rings to their rosary beads). Style changes with the message...Whatever I'm trying to convey to my fans with help dictate or alter what I wear or what is considered 'dope' in my opinion. In a nutshell, the biggest influence over my style is the 'Messages' that I'm trying to bring out in my music.

2. When it comes to hip hop and street-wear Chicago's doing big things .What are some your favorite brands, boutiques and movements ?

I'm a fan of a few brands in Chicago. I really enjoy the styles of Jugrnaut, MBDCRUp rise , St. Alfred, and Sir and Madame. These brands are definitely standouts in my opinion. Whether we're talking about the type of crew knecks they create, or the type of exclusive kicks they bring to the table, they all have a very unique style of clothing that I can truly appreciate.

3. When it comes to retro kicks what are some of your favorites ?

Being from Chicago, it's only right that anything Jordan are my favorite retro kicks (anything from the Jordan brand from 1998 on back). My favorite pair of retro Jordans are probably the 92' Olympic kicks, and the 91' Finals kicks he wore against the Los Angeles Lakers. Another pair of retro kicks I wish they still made (or I could find) are the Ewings. If they brought back those kicks, I would search for those heavily until I found them! So you if guys know where I can find them out there, let me know haha.

4. Hip Hop and fashion go hand and hand so who would you say are the flyest rappers in the game?

I was always a big fan of the fashion statements made by Nas and Kanye West. They're into accessories like I am (the chains, the rings, etc.). Those things help the clothing stand out. The pharaoh-head medallion that Kanye West wore a little while back at the BET awards was fresh. A lot of people aren't into that type of stuff, but it makes a huge statement in my eyes of what he's trying to convey in his music. Andre 3000 (currently Andre lol) is another guys who has a great fashion sense. Very distinguished....very unique. You know it's Andre 3000 when you see him. He's clearly in a lane all by himself (in a great way).

5.   About what age did you really start to care about fashion and creating your own style?

I would say around the age of 22 when I truly got serious with music. It was that I never cared about my fashion sense; it just made me realize that it became very important for me to create my own image within my music. It helped me solidify my identity. My identity was already there; it just wasn't as defined until I became very interest in becoming an artist.

6. What are some of your  favorite brands ?

I'm a fan of multiple brands. I've recently been into clothing from stores like Urban Outfitters and H&M. Akira is another brand that stands out to me (clothing-wise).

7. Sneakers, hats, jeans or tees which one is it that you can't get enough of ?

Definitely it would be sneakers (and accessories lol). I know that one wasn't listed, but it's true. I can't get enough of accessories and sneakers lol.

8. If you had to stick to rockin one sneaker brand would it be Nike or Adidas and why ?

Damn.....that's a hard one haha. I like both brands a lot. If we're talking retro, I would say Nike. If we're talking about the present day, I would say Adidas...

9. Any fashion tips for others ?

Whatever it is that you like to wear, just make sure that it's YOU! Be yourself in your fashion. That's when you'll be the most comfortable. People can tell (especially with artist), if you're wearing clothing/items that you don't feel comfortable with. Definitely make sure that you're being you in your fashion.

10. When it comes to releasing new material you pretty consistent, what can fans expect from Neak the artist in the near future ?

Well, I've recently released my latest album (Executive Produced By Slot-A & Rashid Hadee), 'Love Greater // The Prequel - http://www.djbooth.net/index/mixtapes/entry/neak-love-greater-the-prequel/ ' so you can expect more videos from the album, and I'm currently in the process with setting up a short tour for the album. I'll be just doing everything I can (in the meantime) to make sure the album is getting out there to the masses!
I would definitely like to thank you guys for interviewing me. Much Much Love!
